John: I’ll tell you what —let’s go shopping this evening, shall we?

约翰：听我说，晚上我们去购物好吗？

Nana: Okay. I’d love to.

娜娜：好的，我也想购物。

John: I wonder if shops are open.

约翰：不知道商店营业吗？

Nana:Yes. Most shops are open until 10:00P.M.

娜娜：大多数商店营业到晚上10 点。

John:That’s great!

约翰：太好了。

Nana:Then what would you like to buy?

娜娜：你想买些什么？

John: Something particular.

约翰：买些特别的东西。

Nana: What do you mean by “particular”?

娜娜：“特别”是指什么？

John: I mean something with Hainanesecharacteristics.

约翰：就是些有海南特色的。

Nana: I’ve no idea at the moment. May I askhow much you expect to spend?

娜娜：此刻我也没有想法。我是否可以问一下，你打算花多少钱？

John: I don’t mind if the things are nice.

约翰：只要东西好，花多少钱没关系。

Nana:They should be of good quality.

John:Of course. Needless to say.

Nana:I was wondering how many gifts youwant to buy.

娜娜：我不知道你想买多少礼物。

John: I think I’ll buy something for mymother, my father, my daughter, and Kelly, who is a close friend of mine, andsome small gifts for my colleagues.

约翰：我想给我妈、我爸、我女儿、我的好朋友凯丽，还有同事买些礼物。

Nana: You won’t buy something for yourself,will you?

娜娜：你不给自己买点什么，对吗？

John: I will. It depends.

约翰：要买，看情况吧。

Nana: Let’s go downtown.

娜娜：我们到商业中心去。

John: Are there any stores selling localspecialties there?

约翰：那儿有海南特产店吗？

Nana: Yes, there are.

娜娜：有的。

John: Okay. Let’s go.

约翰：好。我们走。

John: Wow, this shopping mall is as largeas those in New York. There are all sorts of goods.

约翰：哇，这个商场和纽约的一样大。商品琳琅满目。

Nana:Yes. They sell a wide variety of goodsboth from home and abroad to meet consumers’ demands.

娜娜：没错。他们出售来自中国和外国的各种商品，以满足消费者的需要。

John: China is the biggest consumer marketin the world, if I may say so.

约翰：我是否可以说，中国是世界上最大的消费市场。

Nana: Yes, there’s no doubt about it. Hereis a big store selling local specialties.

娜娜：当然，毫无疑问。这儿是一家大型特产店。

John: Amazing! It has a vast array ofthings made of coconut.

约翰：太好了！这儿有各种各样的椰子制品。

Salesgirl: Hello. May I help you, sir?

营业员：你好，先生，我可以帮你吗？

John: Yes, thanks. What’s this?

约翰：好的，谢谢。这是什么？

Salesgirl: It’s the brocade of the Lipeople.

营业员：这是黎锦。

John: Is it woven by hand or by machine?

约翰：是手工织的，还是机器织的？

Salesgirl: By hand. It’s made by Li’straditional technology of weaving, dyeing, spinning, and embroidering. So itscraftsmanship is exquisite.

John: The color is very beautiful. Is thedye natural or chemical?

约翰：颜色很漂亮。染料是天然的，还是化学的？

Salesgirl: It’s natural. It’s extractedfrom native plants.

John: Good. I’m keen on the patterns too.

Salesgirl: The patterns are unique, aren’tthey? They are one of the symbols of the Li people.

John: Does it mean they tell stories aboutLi people?

Salesgirl: Yes, you’re right. We havenumerous types of products for you to choose from. Prices are reasonable.

John: All right. I’ll take two scarves ofLi brocade, three coconut carvings, and four boxes of coconut candies. How muchare they all together?

Salesgirl: That’s 1800 yuan in all.

营业员：一共1800 元。

John: Can I pay by credit card?

约翰：能用信用卡吗？

Salesgirl: Certainly. Do you want to getthe things packed up?

营业员：当然可以。要装箱打包吗？

John: Sure. That’s very kind of you.

约翰：好的。非常感谢。

Salesgirl: You’re welcome. Have a nice day,sir.

营业员：不客气。再见，先生。

John: Have a nice day. Excuse me, where isthe restroom?

约翰：再见。请问洗手间在哪？

Salesgirl: Please go straight ahead, and thenturn right. You can’t miss it.

营业员：请往前直走，然后向右转，就是了。
